This time we explore the world of embroidery. It's said to have come to Japan from continental Asia along with Buddhism in the 5th century CE. From being reserved for religion, it was used to ornament kimonos. Delicate, uniquely Japanese designs flourished. Embroidered patterns showed a family's wishes for children to grow up healthy, and the art was part of everyday life. Today it has evolved to take on new meaning and value.
